Catch Me If I Fall / Barry Jonsberg

Ashleigh and Aiden are thirteen-year-old twins who promise to always look out for each other. Aiden is more dedicated to the task than Ashleigh, but when it comes to matters of life and death, they both exhibit a fierce protectiveness that will change the course of their lives.

From one of our 2021 Carey Inky Judges:

Catch Me If I Fall is a clever, creative and unique story. Though it is aimed at a younger audience with characters aged 12-13, it has a great general appeal to people of all ages. Its themes and messages are original and artfully presented in the engaging and well-developed world of the story. The two characters balance each other well and create a heartfelt, emotional story.”

How It All Blew Up - Arvin Ahmadi - 9781471409929 - Allen & Unwin - Australia

How It All Blew Up / Arvin Ahmadi

18yo Amir Azadi always knew that coming out to his Muslim family would be messy, but he wasn't expecting it to end in an airport interrogation room. Now, he's telling his side of the story to the officer: why he ran away to Rome, and what he was doing there for a month... all while his mum, dad and little sister are being interrogated in the room next door.

From one of our 2021 Carey Inky Judges:

"How It All Blew Up was just highly enjoyable to read, the writing style was smooth and the main character was well developed and made you invested. While the scenario wasn't particularly realistic and left some major plot holes, it didn't need to be taken seriously and was just a fun, escapist read."
