Heteronormativity/Cisnormativity:
The idea of assuming that everyone is heterosexual/cisgender, or that these identities are the "default" within society.
"I can't believe that just because I said I'm married, she assumed I must be married to a woman, it's so heteronormative! Men can marry men as well."
Why is this a bad thing?
Making it seem like being straight and cisgender is the "normal" or "default" way to be can make those who don't identify with those terms feel othered and excluded. There is no "default" human experience, and everyone's ways of being should be accepted.
