Top Tips for Online Searching

How does a Google Search work?

Google

Google Web Search

Tips for searching Google:

PHRASES (" ")

  • Use phrases in quotes or Google will search for the words separately. eg. "Sport technology";
  • Sport technology will search for the word "sport" and "technology" separately and not as a phrase.

AND

  • Google automatically inserts "AND" between your terms, unless you tell it otherwise.
  • Sport technology will be searched by Google as Sport AND technology. "Sport technology" will retrieve less but more relevant content.

OR

  • Separate synonyms with "OR" to maximise best results.
  • "Biomechanics in sport" OR "Biometrics in sport"

Exclude words from your search

  • Put - in front of a word you want to leave out. For example, jaguar speed -car
